Read/watch the Extended: On Volition and Intent (due to Awareness)
Brought Forth...
Attention is the first thing awareness yields to. (Even though you might not be aware of it.) The levels of your awareness fluctuate dependent upon the levels of your attention. And that happens even when you’re not aware of it. And you’re not aware of it because your attention, even though when high, is not being directed toward awareness. In this case, your high attention (and consequent high awareness) is being directed toward something else. And this is exactly how you miss the point of what being aware feels like or what awareness is altogether.
Instead of focusing on something else when your attention is high, direct it toward your level of awareness. Then “move” your awareness toward the subject of your attention. It’s a little bit different than what we’re used to doing, but making this slight shift allows you to start grasping the relationship between attention and awareness. And in doing so, you grasp the difference between alertness and awareness (since we usually mistake alertness for awareness).
A broader or more pointed “understanding” of reality—of what you are making a point of or an observation about or having your attention directed at—is the result of how aware you are of both the action you’re taking to do so and the subject at hand.
It means, the more you get or understand the mechanics behind your action (the steps that surface along the way all the way into arriving at the place where you’re confronting the subject of your attention), the more you can relax in the action of being attentive toward it. And that leads to allowing additions to be made; in this case, not only gathering information about what you’re being attentive toward, but bringing the layer of your awareness to it.
Show-How...
You’re then aware of what it means being attentive toward that something. You’re also aware of what the subject of your attention entails or could entail if you were to tweak and expand its representations.
That’s when awareness starts being played out on top of being attentive. You start exercising the playing out of its levels of intensity, the intensity at which the charge contained within its movement (its energy to movement ratio, determining its rate of frequency too), what I call intensity of charge, is being fine-tuned and played out at.
That in itself resumes into what we could call a certain “potency” at which that action comes across, how precise and/or to the point it is; your own kind of potency. And making “movements” in this non-trivial way (and non-trivial because we don’t usually pay/give attention to what’s behind exercising attention, not to mention awareness) allows for other kinds of doors to be opened. Doors that have to do and that are more in alignment with your own kinds of movement than with anybody else’s.
What that means is that this simple shift in how you play with your attention—being attentive to how you ignite awareness when you set attention toward something—is enough to trigger-start your being aware toward awareness in itself.
Good to Know...
When you start playing with it, another thing becomes clear: you start to clearly see the difference between your own awareness and the awareness of the body. You start picking up when you’re alerted by your body, or, said differently, when your body alerts you; telling you that your body, in this case, was the aware one, and were you not to pay attention to its alerting you to start with, you would not be aware at all of what it alerted you to start with.
There is no contradiction at all. What there is is a level of awareness that ensures steady “charge” and then starts to raise itself rapidly if you so choose to. Things you were not aware of before become evident and to your face. Moments that once passed through unobserved or “unimportant” become relevant in a light way. And the intensity of charge at which all of it is played out in front of you becomes completely available to you, as a modulator you can play with, so you can adjust it at will.
And will becomes a possibility, the directing of your attention gains the “weight” (read: power) of your potency, the movement that only you can make.
